Pontoon boats appeal to a wide range of boaters for a myriad of activities on a vast range of lake sizes. For this reason, Berkshire builds pontoon boats on a variety of platforms to suit a wide range of budgets and agendas.
Allow us to explain Berkshire's variety of pontoon boat platforms:
Standard Pontoon boat design:
Berkshires "standard" pontoon platform starts with a pair of 25" pontoons that are pressurized to 3.5 PSI. This feature is an industry exclusive. (Selected LSR models ride on pressurized 23" pontoons). The 54" nose cones are longer than the industry standard to enhance speed and fuel efficiency while offering a smoother, drier ride. Full length keels are fitted along the total length of each pontoon. These keels add strength as well as improving maneuverability.
Crossmembers are installed on 16" centers with stainless steel fasteners to a full length continuous riser that is stitch welded inside and out to the two pontoons.
Berkshire uses more fasteners than all leading competitors to install the 7 ply pressure preserved marine grade plywood deck panels.
Berkshire BP2 Performance Package:
This popular option enhances the performance and efficiency of a conventional twin tube pontoon by adding several upgrades in one package.
Lifting strakes are installed on the inboard side of the two pontoons. These strakes improve lift thereby reducing drag and increasing speed. An underdeck skin is also included. This skin has been engineered with rolled outboard edges to flow smoothly into the pontoons in such a way to enhance performance by further reducing drag.
Because the BP2 Package improves speed and handling, Berkshire also includes a hydraulic steering system. Hydraulic steering removes any torque steer, allows for higher horse power outboards and improves maneuverability at all speeds.
High horse power outboards bring more speed and improve the flexibility of your boat. With the BP2 package, watersports become a possibility. For this reason, the BP2 Package also includes a stainless steel ski tow bar. This upgrade is excellent for water skiing, knee boarding and wake boarding. It also makes an excellent safety handrail when stepping onto the aft swim platform area (once the outboard has been returned to neutral and shut off.)
BP1 Comfort Package:
Berkshire's affordably priced tri-toon package, the BP1 Package includes a 3rd 25" pressurized pontoon installed ahead of the traditional outboard motor pod. Lifting strakes are installed on the inboard sides of the two outside pontoons. The same hydrodinamically engineered under deck skin found on the BP2 Package is also included.
Hydraulic steering and the stainless steel ski tow bar are not included. Hydraulic steering is strongly recommended and required on outboard motors of 115 hp and greater.
BP3 Performance Package:
If maximum performance from a pontoon boat is what you crave then the BP3 Performance Tri-Toon Package is for you.
The center pontoon is longer than the outboard pontoons and extends the overall length of the boat. This middle pontoon positions the outboard motor further aft, leveraging the motor's power trim to enhance bow lift for increased speed and the driest ride possible. This middle pontoon carries an oversized fuel tank allowing amazing range from today's fuel stingy 6 cylinder outboards. Under floor ski storage is also housed inside the 3rd BP3 pontoon (optional on LTD models).
Lifting strakes are found on the center pontoon as well as the inboard sides of the 2 outboard pontoons. Our industry leading rolled underdeck skin is also included.
Because our BP3 models are rated for as much as 250 hp outboards, Berkshire supplies an electric-over-hydraulic power assisted hydraulic steering system. This steering system is smooth, easy and predictable at virtually any speed.
The BP3 Performance Package is capped off with an impressive, heavy duty ski tow bar with a design inspired by the towers on today's wakeboard boats.
